Middle School Night and Donations

Hey everyone, great job this past weekend! Senior night, football game, and a competition in 24 hours was a lot, and you all did an amazing job!

Congrats to the marching band and color guard for winning first place, and high visual and high percussion!

As we enter the last few weeks of rehearsals, the kids will continue the hard work of trying to make the show as good as it possibly can be. Making the incremental gains from here on out will be harder and harder, so it is super important that students are at rehearsals and are coming prepared and ready to focus and work hard. They have a great show and are doing very well! Keep it up, and let’s push to go as far was we are capable of!

Also, as a reminder, donations are the lifeblood of the program. The reality is, we need money to do anything that we do. If you haven’t made your fall donation yet, please get started with it today. Any amount helps, and participation by everybody is important. You can find more information below. You an also get started on spring ensemble donations. Amounts are below in the donations section.

MIDDLE SCHOOL NIGHT - Friday, 10/30

We’re excited to welcome middle school band students from across the ABC School District this Friday! They’ll rehearse pep tunes and perform alongside our Regiment of Gold as our football team takes the field, then experience our field show—a great introduction to high school Band and Color Guard!

🍕 Help Us Feed Our Future ROG Members!
Traditionally, we provide pizza and drinks for all participating students to keep them fueled for the evening. With such a large group, we’ll need extra hands to help serve food and keep everything running smoothly. It’s also a great opportunity to see our students connect with these potential future members! 💛🖤

🙋 Please sign up to lend a hand! Your help makes these special events possible, and we truly appreciate your support!

A NOTE ON ATTENDANCE

This is just a reminder that all the band classes at Cerritos High School are performance classes. Everything that we do in class and rehearsal builds to the performances, which includes things like football games. We have had a slight uptick in people missing performances, especially football games. A significant portion of your grade, and the payoff for all of the hard work, is based on attendance and participation in these events.

Also, please remember that your work doesn’t just affect you. In band, the musical and visual components are a collective effort. Your efforts work together with everyone around you to produce the performance we are working on.

AMAZON WISHLIST

Thank you for the donations that have come in from the wishlist! These items really do make a difference and are already being used!

There is more on the list.

Every year, there are items that we need to make the process smoother for the students and staff. Please consider helping us out and buying something off the list. There are items for as cheap as $5 on the list. Anything helps!

HYDRATION EXPECTATIONS

All student need to make sure that they are taking hydration seriously! Band is a physical activity, and the students are getting PE credit for it. Two things that will help keep your kids safe, healthy, and successful are hydrating early and often, and coming to rehearsals and competitions with a one gallon jug of water.

Start drinking water the day before we have a rehearsal or event. If you are feeling thirsty, you are already dehydrated! Drink lots of water the night before, and continue drinking as the rehearsal or event goes on.

Students also MUST have adequate water. I have been seeing more and more small bottles. While these may be more convenient to carry around, they are NOT sufficient sources of water. Your student should have a one gallon jug of water with them whenever they are at band.

The boosters will continue to have refill stations for the kids when it is particularly hot, but students need to come prepared!

We are also shifting how we get kids water at competitions. Students should now bring their one gallon jug with them through our warm up routine on show days. This will minimize lines, provide faster, easier access to water throughout the warm up process, and streamline hydration as we prepare for shows.

If you need a jug, here is a cheap option that you can get for $13.

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENT

ALL parent/adult volunteers must complete and submit the waiver form, along with a copy of your government-issued ID, to the school office before you volunteer for anything!

🏫 This is a school requirement. ⚠️ No waiver = No volunteering.

The form states there are fingerprinting and TB testing requirements. For now, these items may be disregarded; they will be addressed later if/when necessary.

Thank you for your understanding and for taking care of this important requirement as soon as possible!

RATIONS FOR THE REGIMENT

We are launching a new fundraiser right now. We are calling it Rations for the Regiment, and we are trying to raise money to provide food for the kids throughout the fall season.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

As we move further into the season, preparation and consistency become increasingly important.

Come prepared. Students should have their instrument, music, equipment, water, and appropriate rehearsal clothing every day.

Be present and engaged. Learning drill requires everyone to be in the right place at the right time. When someone is missing, it affects more than just that student.

Take care of yourself. Especially on our Saturday rehearsals, students need to stay hydrated, eat enough, get enough sleep, and come prepared for a full day outside.

Stay on top of schoolwork. Marching band is a significant commitment, but students are still responsible for their classes. Please make sure students are communicating with teachers and keeping up with their work.

ATHLETIC CLEARANCE: PAST DUE

All students participating in the music program need a new Athletic Clearance on file with the school for the 2026–27 school year.

If your student has not completed this yet, it is past due and MUST be done now. The school may take up to 5 school days to process a complete clearance, so this is not something to wait on.

Full Athletic Clearance Instructions

There is also a mandatory annual transportation fee (you should get the one with the ASB card… it is cheaper and you get more out of it):

  • $175 — includes ASB card

  • $225 — transportation only

Questions about the clearance process can be directed to Ana Herrarte, Athletic Secretary at ana.herrarte@abcusd.us. Questions for the Athletic Director can be directed to Todd Denhart at todd.denhart@abcusd.us.

26–27 ROG REGISTRATION PAPERWORK

Please make sure the following forms are completed for your student:

Getting these completed early helps us keep student information, emergency contacts, uniforms, and volunteer coordination organized throughout the season.

REHEARSAL ABSENCE FORM

Any time a student is going to miss a rehearsal, they need to complete the absence form. Students should submit the form as soon as they know they are going to miss something, rather than waiting until the day of rehearsal whenever possible.

Submit a Rehearsal Absence Request

This gives us a consistent way to track absences and helps us plan rehearsals appropriately.
